Remarks by Gennaro Gattuso, Valencia coach, in an interview with AS.
Gennaro Gattuso, in an interview with AS newspaper, spoke about the relations he has with Portuguese businessman Jorge Mendes and with the president of Valencia, Peter Lim.
Asked if he feels watched through a magnifying glass because of these relationships, the Spanish club’s boss guarantees he doesn’t care.
“I don’t care. All I think about is my job and I do it well. I already explained: Jorge [Mendes] He’s a friend, but before I came here I hadn’t signed any of his players. If I like a player, I want to sign him. If I don’t like it, I don’t hire because I’m a friend of Jorge’s. With Peter it’s the same. When I don’t like something, I say it to my face. I’m not here to help Peter sell players, I’m here to improve the team and get an important position. Because if it doesn’t happen, I’m going home.”
“Honestly, I have a good relationship with you [Peter] Lim. The day he decided to hire me was the third time I spoke to him. I don’t talk to him on the phone, he doesn’t like it. I talk to him when I go to Singapore. When I was with him, he seemed like someone who would listen to me and understand what I was explaining. I have a lot of respect. I would like him to sign important players, but he shows when that’s not possible and I respect him.”
