Liverpool assistant coach, Pepe Linders, explains Luis Diaz’s signing with Liverpool
This was revealed in the book ‘Sharpness: Inside Liverpool FC – Our Identity’, authored by Pep Leanders, one of Jurgen Klopp’s assistants in the red jersey. How was it possible for Liverpool to sign Luis Diaz from FC Porto after Tottenham reached an agreement with the Dragon?
“I was on a snow vacation with my wife when the sporting director (Julian Ward) called over dinner saying, ‘You and Jürgen’ [Klopp] You have to talk to Luis Diaz in five minutes. We have just reached an agreement with FC Porto, but Tottenham also have an agreement with them,” says Leanders in the book.
Remember that Diaz was in January 2022 with the Colombia national team. In Barranquilla, who was still trying to reach the 2022 World Cup.
“I joined the call at the time when Jürgen was [Klopp} estava a explicar ao Luis [Diaz] How it fits with our style and how we will help it. “You will hear this man a lot,” he said to Luis Diaz, and I will add, “But I will explain things more calmly than Sergio Conceição.”
“The good thing is that you will train against Virgil (Van Dijk), Robertson and Trent (Alexander Arnold). You will be much stronger,” said the former Liverpool assistant to Porto.
Leenders also recalls in the same book what convinced Luis Diaz to move to Anfield: “There weren’t many clubs with more history and culture of wins than FC Porto, but Liverpool was one of them. At that point in the conversation, Julian [Ward] He walked with his cell phone next to the Liverpool Cup bag and said: “We want more trophies and that’s why we want you to come,” he added.
