The Coimbra City Council will analyze and vote, at its meeting next Monday, a proposal by the jury for the public tender to award the contract for the rehabilitation of Casa da Creanca, to host the Side extension. de Taveiro for Veiga Lopes, SA. In the amount of €756,691.66 (incl. VAT) and implementation period of 365 days. It should be noted that the municipality received a contribution of approximately 640,000 euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) for this work.
Coimbra City Council continues work on the renovation of Casa da Crianca and the installation of the Taveiro Health extension there. The building is located on a plot of 3,850 square meters that dates back to the 1970s and consists of two floors. The intervention will be reduced to the minimum necessary, according to the guidelines for facilities and equipment for the Family Health Units of the Provincial Health Department, with the aim of preserving the interior character of the original building. The property has no serious public deficiencies, except for dilapidated sanitation, broken glass exteriors, poor performance and accidental intrusion on the upper floor.
Last August, CM Coimbra publicly presented the initial project for the rehabilitation and modification of Casa da Crianca for the installation of the Taveiro Sanitary Extension. The municipality intends to install the Taveiro Health Annex on the ground floor, consisting of a waiting area, reception/secretary, user sanitary fixtures, treatment rooms, medical, nursing and counseling offices, and storage rooms. , dirty and eviction deposits, while in a more segregated area, exclusive staff areas will operate, such as the multi-purpose room, pantry/staff room, and sanitary facilities/staff locker rooms.
The emergency shelter will have independent entrance and use, with access through the space formerly occupied by the sink. On the ground floor there is a kitchen with pantry and toilet, while on the upper floor there is a common installation, with two large rooms with dormitories, two toilets with bathrooms, individual pantry and various storage.
Externally, the covered area is planned to be closed off by a “screen” covered with wooden slats, while for the interior it is proposed to use durable and non-evasive materials, allowing for faster construction and integration with the existing space and necessary infrastructure to be installed. Thus, with the covered space occupied, a wider entrance area can be created, in order to separate the area for users (living area, attendance, restrooms) and separate it from the working rooms. In the surrounding outdoor area, roads and pedestrian obstacles have been created, with an access ramp inserted into the building.
However, the municipality decided to submit the rehabilitation of Casa da Criança to European funds, and the proposal to include this project in the PACT of CIM-RC was approved at the meeting of the municipal executive authority on the 8th of March. Thus, a share of 639,658.30 euros is expected to be obtained from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
It is reported that CM Coimbra has always shown its full readiness to cooperate, in partnership with the Regional Health Department of the Centre, in the rapid implementation of this intervention, which aims to transfer the health extension from Taveiro to the Casa da Criança building since this expansion was operating in rented facilities, in an advanced state of deterioration. In this sense, the Chamber acquired the property, in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 106/2018, dated November 29, which implements the framework for the transfer of powers to municipal bodies in the field of public property management without use.
Therefore, CM Coimbra intends to ensure that the quality of healthcare provision for users in this geographical area of Coimbra is improved.
