the Prince William and Princess Kate have given their fans a treat by appearing in a video thanking the athletes who represented the UK at the Olympic Games.
In addition to William’s beard, which had everyone talking, there was another detail that stood out, which was the fact that Kate was not wearing her wedding ring.
According to oncologist Daji Liu, there’s a reason for that.
“During cancer treatment, there are several reasons why a person might need to have their rings removed,” he explained.
“Chemotherapy can cause fluid retention in the hands, which can make the rings tight,” he says.
“In addition, metal rings can interfere with radiation therapy and cause problems such as skin burns around the rings,” he adds.
Finally, removing jewelry also helps prevent infection. “Since patients are at high risk for infection during chemotherapy, removing rings can help prevent skin infections.”
