This Thursday, May 5, Novo Banco announced that Mark Burke, who has served as the Corporation’s chief financial officer, will replace Antonio Ramalho as CEO, who has expressed his intention to resign on March 31 of this year.
But who is Mark Burke? Born in 1967 in Ireland. He currently has over 20 years of experience in the financial sector and started his career at PwC in 1989, having joined IFC Group in 2000 as a Finance Officer. In 2006, he was appointed CEO of this institution. Between 2014 and 2019, he was part of Allied Irish Bank (IAB), where he held the position of Chief Financial Officer. In the past three years, he has led the financial sector for Novo Banco.
Majoring in Financial Services, the Irish Director graduated in Accounting from Dublin City University, and also holds an Academic Degree in Electronic Engineering from University College Dublin.
Burke is a member of Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Irish Tax Institute, and in 2018 he was awarded the “Chief Financial Officer of the Year Award” by the Irish Times.
In a statement sent to the CMVM, Novo Banco’s General and Supervisory Board emphasized that “the appointment of an internal candidate ensures continuity and stability, as well as alignment with the recently approved medium-term strategic plan.” .
Burke’s appointment to head Novo Banco still has to obtain clearance from the European Central Bank, and Novo Banco filed in a statement that “relevant information has been submitted to the Bank of Portugal and the European Central Bank for approval”.
Lee Bartlett will fill the position Burke left vacant, asserting that Novo Banquo “is the candidate who best meets the required criteria.”
