WhatsApp users are always demanding more privacy for their data and the app admins are taking another step in this direction by allowing you to use this platform without having to share your phone number.
With this new feature, users will be able to identify themselves using just a username. This way, it will no longer be necessary to share your contact number so that others can talk to you.
The username will arrive on the web version of WhatsApp first.
This function has been discussed previously, but there are new developments published by WABetainfo Which deserves our attention. As you can see below, they have come across a new interface for choosing a username.
This option is available in the beta version of WhatsApp Web, and it is clear that this will be the first platform to receive this new form of identification and nothing is known yet about other platforms.
The username system that WhatsApp uses will reportedly work with unique identifiers. In other words, there will be no duplicate or discriminatory names. Each one of them will have their own username, no room for doubt.
When you choose your username, you will first have to check whether the name you want is still available. The process will not progress until you have chosen a unique name.
This is a measure that will increase the privacy and security of WhatsApp users’ data. This way, it will no longer be necessary to share your phone number when someone wants to contact you on this platform.
However, anyone who already has your phone number will still be able to find you on WhatsApp. Anyone who doesn’t can do so using your new username.
As reported, usernames will be accompanied by changes to the WhatsApp interface. At the moment, we do not know the extent of the changes that will occur, but everything indicates that Meta has big plans for the web version of this service.
How much will it be available to users? This is a question we can’t answer yet, but we should find out more about it soon.
