You’ve probably tried your luck with the internet and searched for a song by typing in what you remember about it, some random bits whose lyrics you weren’t sure were the right ones. Now, YouTube will allow the song you are searching for and show you the results.
Although it was not possible to do this on the video platform, it was already possible on the search engine, since 2017. In fact, if you want to find the name of a song and you do not know the name or the artist , you can activate the voice search hum .
Now, YouTube has borrowed the functionality from Google, in order to improve user experience, and will allow this search to be done within its platform. The difference from what Google already offers is that the user on YouTube will only see video results, while the search engine provides not only video but also access to song lyrics and other information.
Shazam in YouTube
To use this feature, simply hum a part of the song in YouTube voice search for more than three seconds. And if you're at a party or listening to music while you're walking down the street, you can activate the recording for a short time. Once selected, the platform shows you the results of the official video or related content created by other users, including short videos.
according to nobody Publishing From Google, the music search is powered by a machine learning algorithm. Like Shazam said, melody is a kind of fingerprint of music. And the tech giant's engineers created artificial intelligence models that convert sound into a digital sequence that represents that melody.
We compare these sequences against thousands of songs from around the world and identify potential matches in real time. Our machine learning models recognize the melody of a studio-recorded version of a song, which we can use to match it to the sound of a person's humming.
explained Krishna Kumar, product manager at Google.
In addition to improving the user experience, playing a song in YouTube search will help improve Google's algorithms.
Currently, YouTube music search is only available for some Android users. Since this is an experiment, this post will be available for a short period of time, as it measures performance and obtains feedback.
