How the conflict between Russia and Ukraine affects Formula 1 and other motorsports
Russian driver Irina Sidorkova will not participate in the preliminary testing of the W Series, which takes place in Barcelona, Spain. The female single seat category confirmed the information to the press on Thursday (3).
Irina’s absence is one of the effects of the response to the geopolitical crisis that arose after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, on the 24th. Sidorkova was part of the W Series academy and played in five stages of the 2021 season, including reaching a podium in Austria. The pilot’s participation in the 2022 tournament is not guaranteed.
Last Tuesday, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) held an extraordinary meeting and decided that only Russian and Belarusian drivers would be able to compete in championships organized by the neutral flag entity. The AW series is not suitable for this case.
