Our guest is a professor in the Department of Physics at the Technical University of Copenhagen and at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He is a pioneer in black hole spectroscopy and testing Einstein’s theory. He is the author of more than 250 scientific articles in international journals, and his research has been recognized three times by the European Research Council (ERC). In 2015, he was awarded the Santiago Despada Medal by the President of the Republic, for his contributions to science. He is a founding member of the Portuguese Society of General Relativity.
In the field of scientific publishing, he is one of the authors of the book On the edge of the universereleased in 2011 on Gradiva. Signed introduction to the recent reissue of You are hiddenAbraham Pais’ biography of Einstein published by Gradiva. He has recently signed a new book entitled Eclipse of Time – Black Hole Entry Guideissued by the Office of Literature.
And with this last book, which is about the big questions, we start our conversation: What is time? What is light? What tricks can you use to talk in a way that makes sense to ordinary people about these very mathematical topics in modern physics? We also talk about the future of physics: Will there be a theory of everything that combines quantum theory and general relativity?
