Palmeiras, player of Abel Ferreira, missed the opportunity to overtake Flamengo in the Brazilian rankings last night, when he tied his net at home at Allianz Park, 1-1, in a match of the fourteenth round. The Sao Paulo team even entered the match better and reached the break point, but then could not resist the reaction of the team led by Sampaoli.
Brazil ranking
It was the defending champions’ fourth consecutive game without a win, leaving Palmeiras in fourth place and still with the possibility of slipping another spot in the standings, while Flamengo remain second, tied with Gremio, seven points behind leaders Botafogo. In the process of changing leadership, after Bruno Lage was appointed to replace Luis Castro.
Palmeiras entered the game with everything, stifling Flamengo and its defense. After the first chance from Artur, Dudu opened the scoring, in the 24th minute, with a rebound after Rooney’s first shot. Flamengo reacted even before half time and had two chances to equalise, first through Luan, then Everton Cipolineha.
The first half was interrupted for seven minutes, following disturbances by Flamengo fans outside the stadium, which prompted the police to use pepper spray, which ended up getting inside the fence and disturbing the players on the field.
The second half was very different, not least because Sampaoli released Everton Ribeiro, Arscaita and Bruno Henrique and Flamengo visibly grew stronger. As the game got bigger, Rio’s side took the lead and ended up equalizing, in the 81st minute, on a one-man move engineered by Everton Ribeiro, culminating in Arscaita’s cross to finish it off.
The final minutes of the game were tense, not least because Palmeiras scored two goals through Rooney and Murilo, but they were offside.
With this draw, Botafogo, who visit Gremio on Sunday, will have the opportunity to increase the gap at the top of the standings to ten points.
In the remaining matches played last night, Cuiabá by Antonio Oliveira drew against Bahia from Renato Paiva (1-1), while Cruzeiro de Pepa went to Rio de Janeiro to beat Vasco da Gama (1-0) with a goal of Machado Solitaire.
