Han Kwang-song stunned everyone and everything by appearing in North Korea’s eleven in the 0-1 defeat to Syria.
It’s one of those strange stories that no one understands. Han Kwang-song, considered one of the biggest prospects in North Korean football who has spent time with Italian teams Cagliari, Perugia and Juventus, has been absent for more than three years… but he reappeared today in his team’s starting lineup in the league. Defeat (0-1) against Syria.
The 25-year-old striker stopped showing signs of life in 2020, while he was representing Al-Duhail, Qatar. It was thought he would have hung up his boots and put in his retirement papers, but it appears he is still a very important footballer for his country. Without any record of him continuing to play football for such a long period, Han Kwang-sung reappeared on the pitch wearing the number ’10’ shirt, after leaving at half-time.
Han has always generated a lot of expectations in his country, and even made history by becoming the first North Korean to score a goal in a major European league. He did it in the Italian League, in 2016-2017, in Cagliari’s defeat (2-3) against Torino. He then played for Juventus, before moving to Al-Duhail in early 2020, for a deal amounting to about 5 million euros. In August of this year… he fell off the radar of international football.
