At Gamescom 2022, we’re introduced to Under The Waves, a sad, deep-sea adventure that focuses on the topic of preserving the planet’s oceans.
Come see what’s going on under these waters…
At the Gamescom 2022 opening ceremony, the game developed by Parallel Studio that will be distributed by Quantic Dream, Under The Waves, was revealed.
The game, as its makers point out, is a poetic adventure with a strong narrative intensity that prompts players to discover underwater secrets that serve as a powerful message about ocean conservation.
The game takes place in the 1970s, where players follow the adventures of Stan, a professional diver working for an oil company.
With the ocean isolated for the company, Stan begins to witness a series of various strange phenomena beneath the surface that endanger his life.
To survive, players will have to follow different manifestations of his memories, causing Stan to fight to free himself from them and return to the surface, or remain forever trapped in the depths of the sea and his soul.
Players will drive Stan's Submarine through an underwater abyss and dive to explore caves, wrecks, and aquatic plants while finding stories of the past, scraps, collectibles, and more. Along the way, Stan will also have to build tools and equipment so he can progress further, and the game will also have a component to create and manage tools.
Under the Waves serves as a kind of love letter to our world's oceans and issues many warnings about the importance of preserving them. In this sense, Parallel Studio and Quantic Dream have announced a partnership with the Surfrider Foundation Europe, a non-profit organization responsible for protecting links, rivers, oceans and coastal areas.
"This is the most special and most intense work developed by this studio, revealed Ronan Kauff, CEO and Director of Games at Parallel Studio. "We are an independent team of dozens of members, and all the values and messages we bring to the game, we do it with great passion. From the art used in the game, to the narration writing, to the audio component, we've all had the opportunity to make our own personal mark on Under the Waves. We sincerely hope that anyone who plays under the waves will have as much fun as we had in producing it."
Under The Waves will release next year for PC, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
