The services sector, the country’s economic pillar, grew by 0.2% to 2.1% from pre-epidemic levels, while the industrial sector fell 0.4% to 0.7%.
The construction sector is down 0.1% and 1.1% higher than its pre-epidemic level, ONS said.
Darren Morgan, director of economic statistics at ONS, said today that the manufacturing sector is “in a deep recession, with automakers (automobile) parts struggling to acquire. With current growth, the economy is 1.5% higher than pre-epidemic values”.
Last month, the ONS announced that the UK’s GDP would grow by 7.4% in 2021, slightly lower than initial estimates.
