UK announces €287 million in support to Ukraine

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak made the announcement during a meeting of the British Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Latvia.

The JEF is a military organization formed by Northern European countries and led by the United Kingdom, joined by Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.

At the same summit, Sunak appealed to the remaining JEF members to provide air defense, artillery and vehicles to Ukraine, urging Moscow to withdraw its forces from “conquered territory” to allow peace talks to begin.

“We must make it clear that any unilateral call for a ceasefire by Russia is completely meaningless in the current context,” Sunak said. “I think it would be a false start,” he concluded.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, triggering an armed conflict that, according to United Nations data, has already displaced more than 14 million people, of whom 6.5 million are internally displaced and more than 7.8 million have fled to European countries. According to these data, at least 6,755 civilians were killed and 10,607 injured.
