Millionaire businessman and owner TwitterElon Musk said on Saturday that he is considering changing the brand name and logo of the social network known for its little blue bird.
“Soon we will say goodbye to the Twitter brand, and gradually, to all birds,” wrote Elon Musk, before suggesting that the new logo would be an “X.”
Musk posted a video to a Twitter user on his Twitter profile, showing the current Twitter logo, a blue bird, replaced by a flashing X.
After buying Twitter in October 2022 for $44 billion (€39 billion), Elon Musk changed the company’s name to “X Corp” in April 2023, and regularly talks about turning the social network into a multifaceted app with financial services, similar to WeChat in China.
In response on Twitter to a question from a user who asked if Twitter could be accessed from the address x.com, Elon Musk replied: “Of course.”
“X.com” is the name and website of the online bank founded by the entrepreneur that later became the online payment service PayPal.
If the name change does happen, it will come at a difficult time for Twitter, as Elon Musk has fired about half of the team and its advertising revenue has fallen by half.
