Real Madrid won the Group B match by ten points. The royal team had a two-point lead over Borussia Moishengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk. Atlanta Bergamo finished second in Group D. The Italians were two points behind Liverpool.
In the first match between the two teams, Real won 1-0 on 24 February after a goal from Ferland Mendy in the 86th minute. The game may have been different, but Remo Frooler saw a bad red card in the 17th minute. A goal improvement is certainly not entirely safe and the Kingsman still had to be safe before competing again.
The guests made their first good deed in the third minute. After a cross from the left into the penalty area, the ball went to Robin Cossens. It succeeded in disagreeing, but Thibaut Courtois was wary. The next good move was already scoring a goal.
In the 34th minute, Marco Sportello hit the ball to the feet of Luka Modricia. The Croatian fell in the penalty area and played for Karim Benzema, who led Krolewski with a shot from the first ball. The result is that there will be no extra time in this match. For the French, it was his 70th goal in the Champions League, and he has only lost one goal to Rowley. Nine minutes later, Adalanda managed to equalize, but Ruslan Malinowski crossed the ball post. In the end, Real held a 1-0 lead until the break.
In the 53rd minute, the Kings got their first chance after turning the pages, but junior Vinicius missed the goal. Five minutes later, Vinicius was again in the penalty area, this time he was dirty. After the VAR analysis, the judge gave the guests “eleven”. Sergio Ramos approached the ball and confidently increased the score.
In the 68th minute, after a cross to the penalty area, Karim Benzema tried his chances, but his shot was saved by the goalkeeper first, shortly after the Frenchman hit that post. However, Atlanta did not stop scoring an honorable goal. In the 76th minute, Duan Sabada scored from the left post, but Cordois intervened well.
Six minutes later, the guests made their way. Luis Muriel tried a free kick and beat the real goalkeeper with a right shot under the crossbar. Guests needed two more goals to deliver the promotion, which seemed to be even more enjoyable. However, in the 85th minute, the emotions came to an end. In the penalty box Lucas played against Marco Asensio, who raised the score to 3: 1.
At the end of the match, neither team was able to hit the net. Thus, Real can celebrate the victory and advance to the quarterfinals. The draw for this stage will take place on March 19th. The Royals broke a little curse this way because they last qualified for the 1/8 finals of the 2017/2018 season. Atlanta, on the other hand, did not repeat last season’s success when they played in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
