Torres Novas – Transfer of facilities to the Center for Health Studies

A protocol was signed at the City Hall, which governs the transfer of facilities in Largo do Paço (former Caixa Geral de Depósitos building), in Torres Novas, to the Academy of Medical Knowledge for the operation of a center for studies and monitoring in the field of health. This center is independent of SNS and aims to streamline, promote and develop clinical research projects, including the establishment of a reference center for the treatment of chronic pain. The municipality of Torres Novas makes the aforementioned property available to the MKA for a period of 36 months, renewable for a period of 12 months, with the company in charge of adapting the space and creating jobs, preferably occupied by citizens residing in the municipality, also where medical consultations are offered at special rates for residents of the municipality. MKA’s mission is to provide health care to the population, by increasing the quality of scientific education of Portuguese physicians, by developing their skills in specific areas of daily clinical practice. The implementation of this project will provide the municipality and the population in general with an assistive response to patients suffering from chronic pain; a research center located in Torres Novas; a reference center for chronic pain and other high-prevalence ailments; creating jobs for local citizens; a unique range of services on a national level; potential partnership in events in the health field, attracted by the specialty of the county; The possibility of the reference center assisting in the establishment of physicians and other health specializations in the municipality; And also the development of the local economy through the influx of people and patients from other parts of the country. www.cm-torresnovas.pt
