“Inside this lab coat there is a symbol of hope, professionalism, love and compassion.” This phrase is in one of 100 letters sent to frontline health professionals against Covid-19 at Das Clinicas Hospital in Ribeirao Preto (SP).
The letters were written by students from a school in the city and reached the doctors and nurses by Professor Daniela DeVillippo, the creator of the tribute, and the hospital’s press office.
“[Os alunos] They are taking a smile, a moment of happiness for these professionals who are struggling a lot at the moment, “he says.
Along with letters, professionals also receive sweets and folds in the form of a lotus flower, which, according to student Isabella Honorio Montaneri Campos, symbolizes conquest.
“The lotus flower has a very strong meaning, it blossoms in the middle of the mud, which brings hope, because in the middle of the mud no one imagines it could have it. It represents happiness,” he says.

A reference in the treatment of Covid-19 in the Ribeirão Preto area, HC has, on Sunday afternoon (15), 100% occupancy in the campus unit and 95% vacancies in the emergency unit.
- HC campus: It offered 58 beds / filled 58 beds
- HC emergency: Offered 20 beds / 19 occupied
As a result, the total occupancy was 98.17%. Higher rates also increase the work of unit professionals, who face long hours and few breaks for more than a year.
This script inspired student Livia Vittore dos Santos to write the letter and try to relieve pressure on the workers.
“I see that they suffer a lot and spend many nights without sleep, away from the family, forced into isolation. So I think this motivated me,” he says.
