The 24-hour strike involves railways across England, Scotland and Wales

Another rail strike in England leaves thousands of commuters without trains this Saturday 08 October 2022.
The strike is being led by the RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers), a union representing rail workers, guards and signalmen.
The strike is one of a series of strikes across the UK in recent months and is expected to last 24 hours.
The DSSA union is also on strike. With thousands of members across Britain and Ireland, it is independent and serves the transport and travel industries.
A strike is a hand-to-hand fight between bodies of workers with the government and railway companies over changes in wages, job cuts and terms and conditions of employment..
Still in the negotiations, no progress can be realized on the agenda of the agreement between the parties. RMT chairman Mick Lynch called talks with new transport secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan a “good start” but that “concrete changes” were needed.
Controversy over pay rises has hit Europe as a result of inflation, with unions demanding adequate restructuring to reflect the rise in the cost of living.
In addition to wages, one of the rail companies, Network Rail, plans to cut 2,500 maintenance jobs over the next two years, RMT says.
