gDo you want to add bay leaves to all your recipes? Did you answer yes? It is very likely that you always have this aromatic herb at home. But do you know how to store it properly? Recently, Martha Stewart, on her website, offered some tips.
Typically, bay leaves are sold in glass or plastic containers, where they belong. When purchased individually, you should place them in an airtight container once you get home.
You should always put them “in a cool, dark place” and they can last for six months. In general, exposure to heat, humidity, and direct sunlight causes the leaves to “lose their flavor more quickly.”
You can also “periodically inspect the leaves for mold, discoloration and strange odors” and of course dispose of the affected leaves so as not to spoil the rest.
