The City Council of Vila Franca de Zira celebrated World Diabetes Day, 14 November, with two educational activities targeting students and IPSS users of older people in the municipality.
At the Ateneu Artistico Vilafranquense, in Vila Franca de Dramaturgy, the book “Dia & Betes ea Escola da Amizade” dedicated to type 1 diabetes, written by Fátima Manuela, Public Health Doctor. In the classroom, students had previously worked on the topic, i.e. through a presentation of the work. The aim was to contribute to raising awareness of the disease in general and the importance of appropriate inclusion in the school community of children and young people who have already been diagnosed with this health condition.
A session was also held of the project “Tertúlias à Saúde”, which aims to promote health literacy, promoted by the Municipal Council of Vila Franca de Zira in partnership with the Cluster of Health Centers of the Tagus Estuary (ACES), through nurse specialists from the care unit of the Vila community. Franca de Zira, in the Consolidated Committee for Retirees and the Elderly of the Diocese of Alehandra (CURPIFA). Dedicated to the theme “Myths and Facts about Diabetes”, various concepts about the disease and its prevention were addressed and demystified, concepts of self-knowledge for good health were shared, while different healthy lifestyles were promoted as a means of raising awareness and education. Elderly users of that institution for a better quality of life.
