a The state will pay Compensation of 51 thousand euros To a National Republican Guard soldier who was the victim of a violent attack more than 15 years ago.
The order, signed on February 28 this year by Prime Minister Antonio Costa, Minister of Internal Administration José Luis Carneiro and Minister of Finance Fernando Medina, was published in Republic Diaries This Thursday, March 9th.
The case dates back to December 24, 2007, the day Infantry Corporal João Manuel Ribeiro Pereira, of the Republican National Guard, who was on patrol duty, Violent assault by multiple individualswhen responding to a complaint of “excessive noise in the dwelling”, according to the text published today in the newspaper Diario da Repubblica.
The attack was so violent that the soldier received “multiple wounds” and, as a result of the injuries sustained, was left permanent partial disability.
The letter published today also indicates that the attacks occurred in the aftermath “An act of intimidation and retaliation by the aggressors against the soldier of the National Republican Guard João Manuel Ribeiro Pereira”.
After opening an investigation in which “the harm to the soldier was established, in the light of the evidence collected”, “the nature of intimidation and retaliation of the aggressors” and “the causal relationship between the constitutive facts of the crime and the tasks performed by that soldier”, the State considered that João Manuel Ribeiro Pereira should be compensated in the amount of 51 thousand euros.
