From data on nearly 160,000 females between the ages of 50 and 79, the researchers concluded that optimistic women had a 5.4% longer life expectancy. In addition, they are 10% more likely to live past the age of 90.
But this is not the first investigation to link optimism with age. A 2019 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine and involving more than 33,000 women, reports that optimists seemed to live 23% longer.
That same year, another study found that optimism was associated with an 11% and 15% longer life expectancy in men and women, respectively.
