The remains of more than 240 people, mostly children, were found under an old Haverfordwest convenience store building in Prembokeshie, Wales.
The BBC made this news, writing that archaeologists had discovered the bones in the ruins of a medieval monastery that was under this old store, and it’s from the Monastery of São Salvador, a monastery founded by an order of Dominican friars. about 1256.
Professionals believe the “extremely significant” find provides “a window into the medieval Haverfordwest.
According to Andrei Shubrook, supervising work on the site, the monastery was described as a complex of buildings with dormitories, niches (rooms dedicated to writing and manuscripts), stables, and a hospital.
“It is a very important burial place,” the official said, explaining that there were “a variety of people, from the wealthiest residents to urban dwellers in general.”
About half of the remains were children, which indicates a high infant mortality rate at the time. In addition, some remains had wounds to the head, which corresponded to a battle, and these marks could have been caused by arrows or bullets.
