“After a two-year struggle, we finally obtained funding from the PRR worth more than one million euros, allowing us to move forward with the expansion of the health center,” the mayor of Serta was quoted as saying in a press release.
The signing took place at the headquarters of the Central Regional Committee for Coordination and Development (CCDRC) in Coimbra, in a ceremony attended by Ana Paula Martins, Minister of Health, Manuel Castro Almeida, Deputy Minister and Regional Cohesion, and Isabel Damasceno, President of the CCDRC. The total financial support resulting from the signing of the contract with the Municipality of Serta amounts to 1,055,922.45 euros. The intervention aims to expand the health center and rehabilitate some spaces in order to improve services, safety and comfort conditions for users and professionals, and to enable emergency plans to be implemented in a more functional way.
The intervention also aims to improve access conditions and make the building more environmentally sustainable, by introducing energy efficiency measures.
The government announces 196.7 million riyals for health centers in the north and center
The government announced an investment of €196.7 million, from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), to build new health centers and rehabilitate existing structures in the north and center of the country, in a total of 193 projects.
The contract signing ceremony on Friday, in the morning in Porto and in the afternoon in Coimbra, was attended by the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, and the Deputy Minister and Regional Cohesion, Castro Almeida. Of the 193 projects, 141 are in the north and 52 are in the center of the country.
In a joint statement, the two ministries specified that the projects include 89 municipalities, as well as the Local Health Unit (ULS) in the northeast of the country, and the regional health department of the centre.
On Monday, an investment of 74.8 million euros was announced in Lisbon, the Tagus Valley, Alentejo and Algarve, in a total of 68 projects.
According to the government, the program aims to “finance a range of reforms and investments in the field of health system sustainability,” strengthen primary health care, integrated continuing care, palliative care, mental health, and digital transformation. , with an implementation deadline of June 30, 2026.
The authority indicates in a press release that “the specific goals are 124 new family health centers and the rehabilitation of 347 existing units, with investments amounting to 272.8 million euros and 274.9 million euros, respectively.”
The government adds that the total investment exceeds 547 million euros.
