The number of suspected pediatric acute hepatitis cases investigated by the state education department has risen to five. According to the latest update of the file, issued on Friday (13), two new cases were listed, but one of them was rejected.
until wednesday (11), Four cases were investigated By SES – two in Belo Horizonte and two in Juiz de Fora, in Zona da Mata. The two new records are from Montes Claros, north of the state, but according to the secretary, one of the notifications was “ignored”.
The age of patients was not reported by SES, but it is known that the main symptoms include “abdominal pain and vomiting, accompanied by changes in liver enzymes”. The file also reported that “most of the infected children have not been vaccinated against Covid-19”, due to the minimum age allowed. However, the relationship between cases and immunization has not yet been proven.
Like other records, the update has also been passed on to the Ministry of Health, which is currently monitoring nearly 30 possible cases of the disease. Internationally, more than 200 incidents have been reported as of the end of April, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Idiopathic hepatitis affects children in at least 20 countries. The disease manifests itself very acutely and is not directly related to the viruses known to the disease. In about 10% of cases, a liver transplant was necessary.
