The new Science and Technology Foundation campus funded by PRR
The transportation contract has been signed for the future facilities of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), which will be located on the new Ciência XXI Campus at the headquarters of the National Civil Engineering Laboratory.
With the signing of this document by the FCT and ESTAMO, the first step will be taken towards the creation of Campus Ciência XXI, a support measure for the scientific community included in the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan (Investment C05 – i08 – Science More Digital) with funding of €3.7 million.
At the ceremony, chaired by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, the investment was presented, the main goal of which is to promote digital transformation in the fields of science and technology. The creation of a science and technology campus, open to the community and oriented towards the future, translates, in the first phase, into the rehabilitation and adaptation of two buildings on Avenida do Brasil in Lisbon, and the relocation of the FCT services currently installed on Avenida D. Carlos I to this location, where the FCT's digital services (through its FCCN unit) already operate. Elvira Fortunato highlighted the possibility of creating modern spaces adaptable to the needs of the scientific and technological community, and promoting digital transformation in these areas.
This and other scientific measures are planned as part of the reprogramming of the poverty reduction program with an investment of 93 million euros divided between the areas:
More digital science (€45 million) and
Science Plus Training (48 million euros).
Fernando Alviati, Head of the Portugal Recovery Mission Structure, highlighted the programme's contribution to bringing Portugal into the group of countries with increasing investment in science and technology.
PRR's investments in science and technology will allow for greater training of entrepreneurs and the social fabric, a greater ability to retain talent and encourage more and better research.
