Passos declares a public health emergency due to dengue cases
Passos City Council (MG) has declared a public health emergency due to a surge in dengue cases. The decree enters into force from Friday (15) and lasts for at least 180 days, with the possibility of extending it.
According to the data of the Epidemiological Bulletin of the State Ministry of Health (SES-MG), Passos 1983 has a confirmed record. This week, the state of South Minas reached more than 24,000 confirmed cases of dengue fever in 2024, an increase of 34.6% compared to the previous week.
The current number of possible dengue cases and serious cases has led the municipality to issue a public health emergency decree.
The municipal administration took into account other points such as the high rate of mosquito larvae infestation, increased visits to the emergency care unit (UPA) and the increased spread of disease due to the climate.
Through the document, it is permitted, if necessary, to invite volunteers to carry out awareness-raising actions and campaigns with the aim of facilitating mosquito control.
The decree also includes the establishment of educational campaigns, and extensive and early visits to public and private properties, especially in areas that are likely to be hotspots of infection transmission.
In addition, the city council also ordered the cleaning of vacant lots in case of abandonment, as well as the collection of furniture, cars and scrap metal, and forced entry into properties, businesses and industries, in case of abandonment. Or the absence of people who can allow the public agent to enter.
