On Friday the 25th, the Secretariat for Health Promotion (CMOS), through its epidemiological surveillance (VEGEP) in Blumenau, issued a warning note regarding the increase in the number of meningitis cases reported in the municipality. Vigep continues to monitor the situation.
The Minister of Health Promotion, Marcelo Lanzarin, said that the search for health services could increase, and assured that specialists in the units would be attentive to help and identify suspected cases.
Lanzarine takes the opportunity to comment that meningitis is an inflammatory process of the meninges, the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord, and is caused by viruses, fungi and other agents or infectious processes.
“The main symptoms are: fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, neck stiffness, muscle pain, and difficulty breathing. In children, irritability, apathy, and refusal to eat may be noted. It is worth noting that if symptoms appear, find your reference health unit,” adds the Minister for Health Promotion.
Simos takes the opportunity to certify that the places where meningitis cases have been reported received official notification of the disease and were guided by prevention and control measures. The Secretariat also advises residents to update their vaccination book.
