Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares praised Mangualdi, saying: “It is the best European Stellantis manufacturer in terms of quality and cost. They are excellent.”
Excellence, is what can be defined as the Stellantis de Mangualde factory, when we take into account the words of Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis.
Words spoken during the “round table” between the Portuguese CEO and several journalists, where Razão Automóvel was present, during the 23rd National Congress of the Engineers Union, in Porto, which took place yesterday, January 25th.
We must start by pointing out that the Mangwald plant once again broke its production record in 2023, producing 84,000 vehicles. We remind you that in Mangualde light commercial vehicles from Citroën, Fiat, Opel and Peugeot are produced.
In addition to praising the numbers achieved, Tavares also thanked the factory “not only for the results, but also for the example they set for the entire Stellantis company.” He stressed the message of the importance of the Mangualdi plant in the future of the group:
“It is the best European manufacturer for Stellantis in terms of quality and cost. They are excellent.”

He stressed that because of these quality and cost ratios, the factory is “safe from potential cost containment.”
In conclusion, Tavares highlights the creativity of this industrial unit:
“The Mangwald factory has a little money and a lot of imagination. There's a lot of creativity to solve industrial problems.”

A new phase for the Mangwald plant
There is no time to “rest on our laurels” and a new phase of expansion is about to begin in Mangualdi. At the beginning of last year, Carlos Tavares announced that Mangualdi would also produce electric cars from 2025.

Mangualde will produce electric versions of the models it already produces (combustion) for various Stellantis brands. Electric cargo and passenger variants of the Citroën ë-Berlingo, Fiat e-Doblò, Peugeot e-Partner and Opel Combo-e will be produced.
During the event, Carlos Tavares announced the prediction of this date: from 2024, Mangualdi will produce electric cars. It is the first car manufacturer in Portugal to do so.
The transformation and modernization of the Mangualde plant begins with new facilities and improvement of the industrial park.
One positive outcome of the expansion of the Mangualde facilities will be an increase in the workforce: it has been announced that a further 450 jobs will be added to the 850 already existing (1,300 employees in total).
