Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that information exchanged on social media, including the recording, shows “once again the West's direct involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.” He added, “The recording (audio recording) shows that within the German armed forces, there are detailed and concrete discussions about the plans that will be implemented against Russian territory.”
Peskov's accusations coincide with the summoning of the German ambassador by the Russian Foreign Ministry in Moscow.
According to Russian news agencies, Ambassador Alexander Graf Lambsdorf left the ministry building without commenting.
Russian social media published an audio recording of a remote meeting between high-ranking German officers last Friday.
Berlin confirmed on Saturday that the recording was real and had been intercepted. Participants in the audio recording discuss the possibility of supplying Kiev with German-made long-range Taurus missiles.
Agence France-Presse wrote today that “the conversation is very embarrassing” for Germany, as Berlin officially refuses to hand over Taurus missiles to Kiev, citing the risk of aggravating the conflict.
