Details on Jeep’s first pure EV are scarce, but Meunier pointed to the Jeep Wrangler-based Magneto EV concept as a sign of its priorities during the transition to electrification — “more Jeep than Jeep.”
Meunier said the “order doesn’t matter” when it comes to electrifying the Jeep portfolio, but there will be “some BEVs before the Wrangler.”
Asked if the brand’s electrification drive would take it into new segments, Meunier told Autocar: “Stay tuned. You’ll get some news in the coming months. Jeep is a global brand and our goal is to cover the full range of SUVs. — real SUVs, not lifted hatchbacks.
“We’re not fully expanded to 100%, we still have a few bullets in our pocket.”
The Grand Cherokee is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine paired with two electric motors. It works out to a combined output of 375bhp and 470lb ft and with a 17kWh battery, claims an EV range of 32 miles in urban areas.
