The municipal health minister has already authorized the appointment of more doctors in the Pediatric Emergency Room (Pazinho). In recent days, the municipality has seen an increase in the number of visits to children, especially with cases of intestinal and respiratory infections.
According to PA Children’s Technical Director, Antonio Neto, the demand in the unit has increased by about 30% to 40%, and this usually happens on Mondays due to some malfunctions that occurred on the weekend. Yesterday about (20) children were helped, which added to the burden on Pazino, but all of them were helped. On this day alone, the manager commented that the team had to be called in to clean the bathrooms almost 10 times.
To reduce waiting time, the municipality’s health secretary, Izalba Albuquerque, said it has already authorized the hiring of more doctors to come in for shifts, and even one of them is already working on the unit from the end of the afternoon into the evening. She commented that as classes begin it is common for attendance in the unit to increase.
Even with the large influx of demand, the Secretary stated that there is no shortage of medicines for children and that everyone who arrives in PAzinho is helped, but that each case is analyzed according to its severity, at the time of examination.
Izalba Albuquerque highlighted that Rondonópolis has about 90% coverage with health units, and thus asked for parents’ cooperation to search for neighborhood PSFs for children with milder cases.
