Angolan society is concerned about the health condition of sick activists who are spending two years and five months in prison, due to their “alleged” participation in a demonstration against restrictions on motorcycle taxi drivers last year.
Rosa Mendes, the wife of activist Adolfo Campos imprisoned in the Calomboluca district of the town of Ikolo and Bengo in Luanda, claims that her husband was transferred to a São Paulo prison hospital on Thursday, March 7, but for supposedly administrative reasons. He was not helped.
Our interlocutor says that the lawyers started contacting the prison service, so that her husband could get medical help, as Adolfo Campos has already lost hearing in one ear and also complains of severe chest pain, due to serious health problems.
“They left with him on Thursday, but came back again. He was never hospitalized. But the lawyers sent a letter to the Prison Service, demanding something, as they asked for the second time to leave, but there was no help. Unfortunately, he lost hearing in his left ear, and still suffers from severe pain in his head and chest, and his eyesight is weak.“, denounced Rosa Mendes.
Gilson da Silva Moreira, known as “Tanais Neutro”, also suffered a setback on Thursday in the “Kakila” prison on the outskirts of Luanda, as a result of the hunger strike he began since the end of last February, due to the lack of a court response to the appeal submitted by his defence.
Friend Simao Cativa reported that after his health condition deteriorated, the activist was urgently transferred to the São Paulo Prison Hospital on Thursday, but he warns that his companion's condition is critical and requires a lot of care.
“Tanis began a hunger strike on February 27 this year. That is, last month. On Thursday, he suffered a relapse and was transferred to the São Paulo Prison Hospital, where he is currently hospitalized. The latest information we have is that Tanis was unconscious until yesterdaysaid the Angola Revolutionary Movement member.
