Lead singer of the Green Day band Billy Joe Armstrong has announced that he will “relinquish” his US citizenship following the US Supreme Court’s revocation of the state’s right to abortion.
“F *** America. I renounce my citizenship. I’m coming here,” the artist admitted, during a concert at London Stadium in the UK.
He quoted Rolling Stones magazine as saying, “There is so much nonsense in the world to return to that pathetic excuse for the country.”
Billy Joe Armstrong is not the only musician outraged by the US Supreme Court ruling.
At the Glastonbury Festival in England, too, rapper Kendrick Lamar concluded the concert with a statement highlighting the historical change.
“They judge me. They judge Christ. Good luck with women’s rights,” the artist said twice.
New Zealand singer Lorde sent a message to all the women in his audience. “Want to ask a secret? Your bodies need to be controlled and objectified from the moment you are born. ”
In Glastonbury, artists Phoebe Bridgers, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo admitted to hating the decision.
Last Friday, the US Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to abortion. The Right to Abortion in the United States 1973 ‘Roe v. Wade ‘.
With this decision, each state can choose how to use anti-abortion laws. In other words, in the same country, there may be states where it is legal to terminate a pregnancy, while others may be prohibited and with other restrictions.
