Through the partnership, the German carmaker wants to take the digital experience “to a whole new level”
Stefan Durash, Senior Vice President of Connected Company and BMW Group Technical Operations, announced that the voice assistant for new BMW cars will be built using technology from Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant. The novelty was presented at Amazon’s annual launch event on Thursday, 29th.
“Alexa technology will allow for a more natural dialogue between driver and vehicle, so drivers can focus on the road. This will take the digital experience to a whole new level.”
Communication and privacy
Since the launch of BMW’s first voice assistant in 2018, the German brand’s models have become more connected. In this way, voice interaction is an important part of the manufacturer’s iDrive entertainment and connectivity system.
BMW owners will be able to choose to use only one of the technologies or have the assistants work together. Vehicles with the brand’s new generation of voice assistant will be launched in the next two years.
In a statement, BMW said that all data will be protected and processed in accordance with data privacy laws, in all markets in which the company operates.
