The Microsoft vs. FTC TV series is going from strength to strength, as new information emerges.
It should be noted that the FTC is a US agency that decided to prevent the acquisition of Activision by Microsoft because this would allow the Xbox owner to have a monopoly and, in this way, eliminate competition. Now, it is the European Commission’s turn to make statements.
According to information from Resetera, the European Commission has stated that Microsoft has never made any commitments about not releasing ZeniMax exclusive content on Xbox. “Microsoft made no ‘commitments’ with EU regulators about not releasing Xbox-exclusive content following the acquisition of ZeniMax Media,” the article states.
It’s important to note that Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax was one of the reasons the FTC challenged the Activision Blizzard purchase. However, European regulators said that even if Microsoft restricted access to ZeniMax titles, it would not have a significant impact on the competition, as other consoles would still have a “large variety” of content.
“The Commission unconditionally liquidated the Microsoft/ZeneMax deal because it concluded that the deal would not raise competition concerns,” said an EU watchdog.
Looking forward to the next episodes.
