The Medical Association (OM) has withdrawn its “institutional trust” from Diogo Ayres de Campos, Coordinator of the Response Monitoring Committee in Obstetrics/Gynecology and Maternity Departments, following guidelines on health care in childbirth groups prepared jointly with the Directorate-General of Health (DGS). He called for the “isolation” of the doctor within the framework of this working group.

News provided by CNN Portugal He confirmed to PÚBLICO a source from OM. The letter of the President of the Medical Syndicate was sent this Tuesday to the General Directorate of Diseases with the knowledge of the Minister of Health.

In the letter now sent to the DGD, which PÚBLICO had access to, the President reiterates that the contributions and objections of the OM representatives were “totally ignored”. and that “there was a complete and total disrespect on the part of the Working Group Coordinator for the appointed physicians, which led them to request that their names be removed from the guidanceWhich, unfortunately, has not yet happened.

Given that the operating manual is “totally ignored”, Carlos Cortes reiterates previously made requests that the directive be changed, as it “jeopardizes the entire successful history of collaboration between the various professional groups involved in labour, the safety of pregnant women and newborn babies”.

In a recent interview with PÚBLICO and Renaissance RadioThe head of the doctors’ union again criticized the process related to the DGS directive, which specified that care for normal deliveries was now done by specialist obstetric nurses.

“OM was not heard and the opinions of the Medical Association were not considered. So the process was not regular. All the elements indicated by the OM have shown their willingness to leave this commission. “They left that committee,” Carlos Cortés said, noting that if the directive is not rescinded and changed, OM recognizes “the ability to review its participation in DGS working committees.”
