Users over the age of 65 account for more than half of annual spending.
The average spending by the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, in 2022, was 486 euros per beneficiary, about 40 euros more compared to the previous year, but far from the value in 2008, when it reached 743.5 euros. More than half of total health spending is related to beneficiaries over the age of 65, according to the same ADSE data.
The sickness protection scheme for public sector employees – which is deducted 3.5% per month – currently has 1.2 million users.
Expenditures totaled nearly €620 million in 2022, the last full year with closed accounts, an increase of €51 million on the previous year.Beneficiaries over the age of 65, approximately 28% of beneficiaries, register the most significant spending, exceeding €300 million. In this group, according to ADSE data, per capita spending amounts to 917.60 euros. Total spending on the age group between 45 and 64 years is €172 million, representing a “per capita” expenditure of €421.40.
This general system guarantees public sector employees free access to doctors and health services, and the ability to benefit from immediate discounts through a network of providers with whom ADSE has agreements or is subsequently reimbursed. It should be noted that since the first of last January, ADSE has begun to bear financial responsibility for the health care provided to municipal workers, who number about 141,000 employees and at an expense of 60 million, according to what was reported by “Publico.”
