The Prophet’s influence is clear in the Pixel-style headlights, subtle ducktail rear spoiler and curved shoulder line, but the Ioniq 6 is a taller proposition and therefore more practical, standing roughly mm higher than the roof of the show car – mainly because of the 150mm-thick battery.
To showcase the new design, the Ioniq 6 will be available in a variety of colors including metallic red and various blues and greens.
With a flat floor and an open focus on ergonomics in the cabin, lead designer Sangueb Lee tells Autocar, the Ioniq 6 can be used by owners “almost like a third bedroom. The unique curve creates a very pleasant warm ‘cocoon’ atmosphere in the interior. Exterior design is a primary factor in a customer’s purchasing decision, but The interior is the brand differentiator for an EV.”
Four color schemes will be offered: two-tone grey, light gray with dark olive green, light brown and black with black. The interior design is dominated by the gauge cluster and twin 12.0-inch monitors for the infotainment. The latter supports connecting multiple phones simultaneously, so one can be used for phone calls and the other for music streaming.
The center console is flat so front seat occupants can work on their laptops or tablets. A minimalist “cow horn”-shaped dash with 12.0-inch screens on a panel is part of the new “user-centric” architecture, and the center console floats to free up space in the forward cabin. Additionally, the long wheelbase allows for competitive positions in both rows.
