Tesla presents, this Tuesday, the first cars produced in the “gigafactory” in Germany, its first factory in Europe and the most advanced, sustainable and efficient to date.The first 30 cars delivered to new owners are also Europe’s first Y Performance Model. And in Portugal, the new model “Made in” Germany, available from 71 thousand euros, is supposed to arrive before the end of this month, according to Tesla, in a statement, noting that new orders are scheduled to be delivered in May.
“Giga Factory” Berlin-Brandenburg is the fifth largest Tesla company worldwide. It was announced in November 2019, and by spring 2020, construction had already begun. Almost two years later, the plant got the go-ahead and began production of the 100% electric Model Y compact SUV.
In a statement, Tesla notes that starting with this model, the German unit will provide the vehicles to all of its European markets.
The “Giga Factory”, which is located on an area of 300 hectares, houses a series of production units that follow a vertical model. When fully operational and at cruising speed, about 12,000 employees will produce cars, batteries, electric motors, plastic components or seats.
According to the company, the unit has a potential annual capacity of 500,000 Model Y and a battery output of 50 gigawatt-hours, making it, by far, Europe’s largest electric vehicle manufacturer by capacity.
More than 3,000 workers have begun work at the Tesla plant, which is expected to hire thousands more in the coming months. From production to operations, to supply chain, construction and engineering, the gigafactory job offer Berlin Brandenburg.
