The 13th edition of TEDxPorto, an event dedicated to sharing and disseminating ideas and projects capable of changing the world, is scheduled to take place on April 27 at the Alvandega do Porto Convention Center. Alfredo Cunha, Stefan Sagmeister, Catarina Oliveira and José Pacheco are the first four speakers announced. They will take the stage to share transformative ideas and projects around the theme of “Legacy.”
The 2024 edition of TEDxPorto aims to inspire and encourage reflection on the present and the impact of our work in the future, based on prominent figures from various fields.
One of the first announced speakers is Alfredo Cunha, the Portuguese photojournalist, known for his photographs of April 25, 1974, as well as for his role as official photographer for the Presidents of the Republic, Ramalho Léanes and Mario Soares.
On the TEDxPorto stage, he will talk about the legacy of conveying the truth of events, through photography, which he has had the honor of following during his more than 50 years as a photojournalist.
Graphic designer Stefan Sagmeister is one of the first speakers announced. Through his work, he helped redefine graphic design in the world, having been responsible for designing album covers for such landmark names in music as Lou Reed, David Byrne, and the Rolling Stones.
Her other entertainment clients include brands such as the Guggenheim Museum, HBO, and Time Warner, who has won three Grammy Awards and honors for excellence in design. Sagmeister has participated five times in the official TED conference, making him one of the three most frequent speakers, and will be speaking to TEDxPorto participants about how today's major topics relate to design and what the implications are for our daily lives.

José Pacheco defines himself as “an educational designer and learner of achievable utopias.” This teacher from Porto was the founder of the Escola da Ponte school in Vila das Aves in the 1970s, and in recent decades has worked to raise awareness of the 19th-century school model that he considers “condemnable to ignorance.” And failure to fulfill the constitutional right to “education for all.”
At TEDxPorto, he will explain why contemporary humanitarian projects are out of step with our school practices and talk about the need for a new ethics based on knowing how to care and live together.
