IPSantarém’s Escola Superior de Saúde de Santarém (ESSS) establishes itself as a school of excellence nationally and internationally and a reference in the field of higher education in the field of health.
Celebrating its forty-ninth birthday on the sixteenth of May, it has a long history as an institution of higher education, presumably responsible for the development of academic activity in the context of training and lifelong learning, at the service of society and aimed at the production, transfer and dissemination of professional knowledge. The quality of teaching, research and development, internationalization and integration in collaboration networks are highlighted. It is an active element in the development of the region and in the continuous improvement of the scientific level of nursing and health.
ESSS has a diverse training offer, which guarantees qualification in the most competitive markets, and highlights the high employment rate of professionals trained by this higher education institution.
Recognizing the current challenges, this academic year shows the reshaping of higher professional technical courses with a strong component of skill development in the areas of health and technology: Protection and Support of Older Persons (in partnership with Escola Superior de Educação do Politécnico de Santarem) and the Health Secretariat. The nursing degree has seen a large and growing number of candidates as well as a master’s degree in maternal and obstetric health nursing. As of this academic year, a new MSc in Community Nursing is being offered – the field of Community Health and Public Health Nursing.
The Master’s Program in Health Unit Management (in partnership with Escola Superior de Gestão e Tecnologia do Politécnico de Santarém) remains an attractive offer.
It is worth noting that the ESSS training presentation is today at the forefront of mobilizing digital technologies, in line with the challenges facing the preparation of health professionals of the future, in the different contexts of organizations providing care.
These conditions require the growth of the physical space of the school, so it is expected that new spaces will be created and some of the existing ones reconfigured to develop the teaching and learning process.
ESSS is a school that understands the current and projected challenges of a demanding and powerful future.
