The Health Promotion Management Unit (UGPS), through Epidemiological Surveillance (VE), ends on Monday (26th) the intensification campaign for active search for tuberculosis cases – Phase II. The target audience is people who have had a cough for three weeks or more.
The campaign launched by the Minister of Foreign Affairs aims to spread the symptoms of the disease, guidance, and awareness of the importance of early detection, in addition to identifying a large number of people who show respiratory symptoms from active research.
So far, 391 tests have been collected, four of which have been positive. In the first phase, in March, 178 tests were collected, nine of which were positive.
Tuberculosis is a disease that develops silently and is caused by Koch’s bacillus, with transmission through the air. Symptoms include: persistent cough for more than three weeks, night sweats, shortness of breath, weight loss, low-grade fever, hoarseness, and weakness. In Brazil, in 2021, 68,271 new cases of the disease were recorded. In Jundiaí, in the same period, VE recorded 93 cases. This year, so far, 116 cases have been reported.
To participate in the campaign, simply search for the nearest basic health unit. The test is simple and fast, and the result is available in seven days. The treatment is provided free of charge by UBSs.
