The Community Municipal (CIM) of Tâmega e Sousa met on Monday, March 27, with the Executive Director of the National Health Service (SNS), Fernando Araujo, to assess the feasibility of establishing a local health unit (ULS) in the area in order to improve healthcare delivery.
The meeting follows a decision taken by the Municipal Council of the CIM of Tâmega e Sousa, at the meeting held in December last year, to move, together with the Executive Directorate of the SNS, to conduct a study and analyze the feasibility of establishing a ULS within the scope of the Hospital Center of Tâmega e Sousa (CHTS) and aggregation of Health Centers (ACeS) Tâmega I – Baixo Tâmega, Tâmega II – Vale do Sousa Sul and Tâmega III – Vale de Sousa Norte, also taking into account the competences granted by the Municipalities of the CIM in Tâmega e Sousa to build a Health Strategy Grand municipality.
The Tâmega e Sousa CIM proposal, which was clarified with the Paredes Municipality, “is based on an integrated management of the ULS by the three CHTS and ACeS, with the aim of improving citizens’ access to health care globally, with a particular focus on improving emergency services and financial rationality.” that make good management of public resources, which may include the reorganization of the structure of services, in order to ensure an integrated assistance response at the primary health care and hospital levels, ”says CIM Tâmega e Sousa, in a press release.
The executive director of SNS undertook to analyze the Tâmega e Sousa CIM proposal by the end of the first half, after noting that the national strategy includes the integration of hospital and primary health care into the ULS.
The meeting, which took place at the SNS headquarters, at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário de São João, in Porto, was attended by the President of the Inter-Municipal Council of Tâmega e Sousa, Pedro Machado, the two Vice-Presidents, Cristina Vieira and José Peixoto Lima, and the First Secretary, Telmo Pinto.
