As confirmed by the fighter himself, Tama Tonga ended up signing a contract with NJPW, despite negotiating with WWE.
At the beginning of this year, rumors surfaced that Tama Tonga might sign a contract with WWE, as the latter is interested in signing him.
Although Fightful said that Tama Tonga’s contract with NJPW is about to expire, he recently confirmed that he has renewed his contract with the promoter.
In an interview with Fightful, he also confirmed that he has been in talks with WWE about a potential signing:
Yes, I’ve had conversations with them. They are very interested in me and my brother. Out of respect for New Japan, I always have to give them the door first and see what they can do.
Yes, there was a period of a few months where I was working without a contract to give New Japan a chance. I know that in this world, contracts and the way we talk now can get confusing.
My father taught me how to do business and treat the people who gave me responsibility with sincerity and respect. New Japan first and foremost.
Yes, there have been talks with WWE. I don’t know anything about a hiring freeze. In the end, I ended up choosing New Japan and here we are.
Do you think WWE should have signed Tama Tonga?
