UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Brazilian President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva today spoke about their plans to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, a British government statement said.
In a statement released by a spokesman for Downing Street – the chief executive’s home and office in London – the two leaders spoke by phone and Sunak “reiterated his congratulations on winning the elections in Brazil in October. Both agreed on the importance of electing Lula da Silva and promoting democratic values.”
Lula da Silva and Sunak “discussed their plans to strengthen cooperation to meet shared priorities such as expanding their work to protect the planet’s natural resources”, an official source revealed.
A British government spokesman added that the two politicians “underlined the importance of taking action to reverse forest loss and the President-elect updated the Prime Minister on his plans to transition to a biodiversity and green economy”.
In a phone conversation, the memo concluded, “the directors congratulated each other on the matches” of the soccer World Cup.
