On the sixth day, the municipality of Alhaafu presented the program “Summer in Alhaafu”, with 40 days of music, entertainment, sports and gastronomy, in different parts of the municipality, such as Vista Alegre, Barra, Costa Nova, Jardim Oudinot and the historic center of Alhaafu with an investment of 475 thousand euro.
With the growth of tourism throughout the country, especially in the Aveiro region, the municipality of Úlahavo is committed to tourist attractions that are able to attract a greater number of visitors, and stimulate the local economy. “Through events, our municipality increases its tourist, national and international attractiveness, combining the historical and heritage dimension, which is fundamental, but also through the cultural and gastronomic offer,” confirmed the Mayor of Alhavo, Joao Campolargo.
In addition to traditional festivities and pilgrimages, the youth festival “mariato” and gastronomy festivals were added – the Sardines Festival, the Seafood Festival and the Cod Fish Festival.
The first event to happen is the Mareato, which takes place between July 1 and 9, in Praia da Barra and Costa Nova. Aimed primarily at youth and young adults, Mareato has four concerts scheduled for July 7 and 8, at Largo do Farol, in Praia da Barra.
On the 7th there will be a concert of Festim (International Festival of World Music, organized by d’Orfeu Associação Cultural and 23 Milhas), Shantel & Bucovina Club Soundsystem (from Germany), at 7 pm, and at 10:30 pm the premiere of the film “Orquestra do Mar”, a community project with the participation of young musicians from private music schools in the municipality of Úlhavo. In this first release, the Orquestra do Mar joins Lavoisier to reinterpret Fausto’s album “Por este rio up”.
On the 8th, another Festim concert, Electric Jalaba (from Morocco and the UK), will take place at 7pm, followed by a concert by Capitão Fausto at 10:30pm.
In addition to concerts, the Mareato includes a daytime program of entertainment and sports, including the popular race of the Costa Nova do Prado, on the 1st of July, the XIV Travessia da Ria a Nado / IX Aquathlon, on the 2nd of July, the cross-training Mare Challenge on the 8th and 9th July, and the neon race, with a more fun side, on the 9th of July.
Mareato represents an investment of €67,000.
The Sardines Festival, in partnership with APARA (Artisanal Fishing Association of the Aveiro Region), takes place from July 13 to 16, in Costa Nova Park. In the same place, from July 27 to 30, the Seafood Festival is held in partnership with Illiabum Clube.
As for the Cod Fish Festival, the largest gastronomic event in the municipality of Úlhavo, it takes place from August 9 to 13, in Jardim Oudinot, Javanha da Nazaré. In addition to the cod dishes, which are offered by ten associations of the municipality of Úlhafu, the great attraction of this festival are the concerts on the Stage Star board: Jose Malhoa, on August 9; Angus, on the 10th of August; David Carrera, Aug. 11; Act, 12 Aug.; and Sarah Correa on August 13.
A highlight of the 2023 edition of the Festival do Bacalhau is the “Azul Petróleo”, a large-scale project to create a multidisciplinary community, with an ecological nature, which has been promoted since last February and will culminate with an installation / performance to present all days at the Codfish Festival.
In order to provide better working conditions for the participating associations, the Municipality of Ólhavo will rent a new model of modular kitchens, in containers duly approved for this purpose, which means an increased investment of about 15 thousand euros.
