The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards honored season three of HBO’s “Succession” as best drama series, on a night when “The White Lotus” and “Ted Lasso” dominated multiple wins in their respective categories.
“We are so grateful to have such an amazing honor,” said creator Jesse Armstrong, who also won Best Writing for a Drama Series for his work.
In his victory speech, the British screenwriter spoke of the accession to the throne of King Charles III, in the United Kingdom, saying that “this was a great week for the succession”.
“The Caliphate” received 25 nominations and won several categories. Starring Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, and Kieran Culkin, the story revolves around a family group with enormous media power, and Matthew MacFadden won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The actor defeated nominees such as Christopher Walken, Billy Crudup and John Turturro.
Julia Garner continues in Drama for Best Supporting Actress for “Ozark” (Netflix) and Zendaya won an Emmy for Best Actress for “Euphoria” (HBO). Korean Lee Jung-jae was the best actor and Hwang Dong-hyuk was the best drama director, both for “Squid Game” (Netflix).
In the Best Miniseries, Anthology or TV Movie category, “The White Lotus,” also from HBO, won five figurines. It was named Best Miniseries of the Year, and it received writing and directing privileges, both of which were given to creator Mike White, and even awarded Jennifer Coolidge and Murray Bartlett an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor in this category, respectively.
But at the main awards for acting in a miniseries, anthology or TV movie, figurines were presented to Michael Keaton for “Dopesick” and Amanda Seyfried for “The Dropout: The Story of a Fraud.” Both are from the Hulu series that depict true stories.
It was clear that Keaton was thrilled to receive an Emmy. “This is one of the most special projects I have ever worked on,” he said. “means a lot”.
Amanda Seyfried, who played former businesswoman Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout, said receiving the award was a very good feeling. “It was the best moment of my life,” he said of recording the series.
In comedy, “Ted Lasso” from Apple TV + won the highest honors. It was considered the best comedy series of the year and awarded an Emmy Award for Best Actor in a Comedy Film to Jason Sudeikis, who said he was “surprised and full”.
It also led to Brett Goldstein receiving an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Film and receiving an MJ Delaney Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Comedy Film.
In the remaining comedy categories, Jan Smart was Best Actress for Hacks (HBO) and Sheryl Lee Ralph was Best Supporting Actress for Abbott Elementary (ABC). The series, which is about one of the worst elementary schools in the country, also led creator Quinta Bronson to an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy.
Ralph starred in one of the most emotional acceptance speeches of that night, which he began to sing.
He said, “For anyone who has a dream and believes that dream cannot and will not come true, I am here to tell you that this is what it takes to believe, what it takes to strive.” “Never give up on you.”
The 74th Academy of Television Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles this morning.
