The Lions lose (1-5) in Oliveira de Azimes. He hasn't won the cup since 1990
Sporting went out to the Portuguese Cup, after losing (1-5) in the quarter-finals to its host Oliverense. The first event was a thorn in the Lions' side since the sport returned to Alvalade. The last achievement dates back to 1990.
After defeating Barcelona, 4-1, in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Sporting suffered its first major setback this season. Alejandro Dominguez's team finished second in the Portuguese Cup last season. Edo Bosch's team, despite not having won anything yet, confirms its good season: it is at the top of the championship (level on points with FC Porto), is in the “quarter” of the Champions League and in the quarter-finals of the Cup.
In Oliveira de Azemis, Argentine Lucas Martinez was the impressive figure, scoring four goals. The experienced striker from Oliverense, world champion with Argentina, scored twice in the first half, with a goal from Joao Soto in the middle. After the break, Diogo Abreu increased the lead and Lucas Martinez scored two more goals.
Oliverense is the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the cup, which will be held in Barcelos on April 27 and 28.
